ATLANTA, Ga., (Aug. 18, 2006) - The Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC), the nation’s oldest and largest collegiate licensing agency, has signed an agreement with the University of Minnesota to manage its trademark licensing program.

“We are extremely honored the University of Minnesota has joined the CLC Consortium” said Pat Battle, president and CEO of The Collegiate Licensing Company. “ The University of Minnesota has a great academic and athletic history, as well as a strong fan and alumni base. We are excited about working with the University to further expand its licensing program and the protection of its trademarks.”

The agreement will give U of M greater ability to protect and market its brand through a comprehensive trademark-licensing program customized by CLC, which currently represents more than 200 collegiate properties. Prior to joining CLC, the University’s trademark licensing program, which was started in 1986, was handled internally.

“Partnering with CLC was the right thing to do to continue to move Minnesota into the "elite" licensing programs in the country, “ said Dave Lindquist, Director of Trademark Licensing at the University of Minnesota. “We look forward to strengthening the University’s brand and maximizing our presence in the marketplace with CLC.”

The University of Minnesota joins the University of Illinois, University of Michigan, Northwestern University, Penn State University, Purdue University and the University of Wisconsin to become the seventh Big Ten institution represented by CLC.
