University of Minnesota sophomore defenseman Melanie Gagnon (St. Adolphe, Man.) and junior forward and captain Bobbi Ross (Verwood, Sask.) have been selected to the Canadian National Under-22 Team that will compete against the U.S Under-22 Team, August 24th, 25th and 27th. It is the fourth honor for Gagnon and the first trek for Ross. The duo will also compete with the Canadian team in January of 2007.

In her first year as a Golden Golden, Gagnon scored two goals and nine assists for 11 points. The blueliner played in 39 games with the Gophers, missing two games to compete with the Under-22 Team last January. At the end of the regular season, Gagnon was named to the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's All-Rookie Team along with teammates Kim Hanlon and Gigi Marvin. Gagnon's biggest goal of the season came in the NCAA Regional game when she scored the gamewinner against Princeton to advance Minnesota to the NCAA Frozen Four. Gagnon is a three-time member of the Canadian Under-22 Team.

Ross finished her sophomore campaign with 21 goals and 22 assists for 43 points, ranking third on the team. Of the 21 goals, six came on power-play opportunities, while another six were game-winning tallies. In her 40 games played, Ross had three games in which she scored a hat trick, two of which came against conference opponents. Her most memorable hat trick, however, came in the NCAA semifinal win over No. 1 New Hampshire to propel the Gophers into the championship game. Ross was named to the NCAA All-Tournament team along with teammate Ashley Albrecht. An assistant captain as a sophomore, Ross was named the team's most valuable player last year. Along with Andrea Nichols, Ross will hold the captain's title for the 2006-07 campaign. It is Ross' third trip to the Under-22 Development Camp.
