Minnesota Volleyball Defeats Alumni Team in Three Games

The Minnesota volleyball team defeated the Alumni Team in three games by scores of 30-10, 30-24, 30-27 on Saturday, Aug. 26 at the Sports Pavilion.

Minnesota was led by sophomore Kyla Roehrig (Papillion, Neb.) who had 12 kills on the night. Senior Meghan Cumpston (Red Bluff, Calif.) had nine kills and three service aces for the match, while freshman Rachelle Hagerty (Defiance, Ohio) and sophomore Katie Vatterrodt (Bloomington, Ill.) each finished with eight.

Freshman Christine Tan (Palm Harbor, Fla.) led the way with 13 digs, while Hagerty and Krista Chin (Wheeling, Ill.) each had six.

Sophomore Kelly Fallon (Burlington, Wis.), Hagerty and Meredith Nelson (St. Croix Falls, Wis.) each had two service aces on the match.

Minnesota will open up its regular season on Friday, Sept. 1 at 7 p.m. in the St. Louis Tournament against host St. Louis. The Golden Gophers will also play LSU on Saturday, Sept. 2 at 12 noon and Texas A&M at 7 p.m.

The Golden Gophers will then head to Nebraska for the Ameritas Players Challenge, where it will play Cal Poly on Friday, Sept. 8 at 5 p.m., No. 12 Louisville on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 4:30 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 10 at 2 p.m. at host Nebraska.

Minnesota will return to the state on Wednesday, Sept 13 at 7 p.m. when it faces Northern Iowa in Rochester, Minn. The Golden Gophers will open up their matches at the Sports Pavilion on Friday, Sept. 15 when they face U Conn at 7:30 p.m.
