Fun Fact: My full name is: Caitlin Maria Christina Claire Taylor-Sharp...YIKES!

When/where did you first start cheering? I started cheering my senior year in high school at Cretin-Derham Hall in 2004.

What made you want to cheer at the University of Minnesota? My mom actually introduced the idea to me of becoming a Gopher Hockey Cheerleader so I could continue both cheering and figure skating in college. I am very grateful she did this!

What is your favorite part about cheering for the Gophers? I love going to the games, especially when the fans are full of energy! When they’re so full of energy, the whole crowd gets into the game and cheers along with you. It is a great feeling to hear 10,000+ people in Mariucci yell “Let’s Go Gophers!” over and over again!

Who is your favorite Gopher athlete? Ryan Stoa, he has a love for his sport and is a very good leader/captain.

What is your favorite cheerleading memory? Oh boy, there has been a lot over the past four years! I think my favorite though is being in the stands during the 2007 WCHA Final Five. During overtime, Blake Wheeler made the best goal ever that sent us to Regional’s in Denver, CO! Everyone in the arena was so excited and to be able to do the rouser and spell-out after that goal was amazing! I wanted to cry and smile at the same time, I was so happy!

What cheer accomplishment are you most proud of? I’m proud to say that I’ve been on the team for four years and can’t imagine what my college life would have been without it. I’ve not only improved my figure skating skills but also have become a better cheerleader because of the coaching staff throughout the years.

What non-cheer accomplishment are you most proud of? I do believe that because of this program, and especially because of the Head Coach, Sam Owens, I have become a much stronger person and could take on anything the world throws at me.

What do you like to do when you aren’t cheering on the Gophers? When I’m not cheering, I’m either going to class or working at one of my three jobs. It’s a busy life!!

Do you have any tips for high school cheerleaders who want to continue on in college? If you push yourself to go above and beyond what you think you can do and believe that you can be on that team, it will happen. Always strive for the best and to be the best and your hard work will payoff in the end. Go Gophers!
