NCAA Rule Helps Young Golden Gopher Squad
9/27/2006 12:00:00 AM | Women's Basketball
With the opening of official practice less than a month away, the Golden Gopher women’s basketball team is well into its six-week preseason training. Thanks to an NCAA rule, first in effect last season, teams are now able to conduct on-court workouts with their entire squad for an hour two times a week.
The new rule is especially helpful for the 2006-07 Minnesota squad as five freshmen work their way into the fifth-year head coach Pam Borton’s system. Pictured is Coach Borton overseeing a drill with Katie Ohm (22), Breanna Salley and Tanisha Smith (far right).
Minnesota’s first day of official practice is Oct. 13. The Gophers will celebrate the new season with their annual Hoopla celebration on Sunday, Oct. 15.
