Saturday's Women's Hockey Game vs. Wisconsin Sold Out

University of Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletics Department has announced the women's hockey game against the University of Wisconsin on Saturday at 4 p.m., at Ridder Arena has sold out in both the general admission and reserved seating sections. It is the first time in school history that a women’s hockey game has been marked as a sellout, with the help of Minnesota Showcase Hockey and Twin Cities’ youth hockey teams. General admission and reserved seating is available for Friday’s game, also against the Badgers, at 7 p.m. For more information or to purchase tickets, contact the Gopher ticket office at 612-624-8080 or by going to the Gophers’ athletic website at www.gophersports.com.
Since the start of the Golden Gopher women’s hockey program in 1997-98, Minnesota has held the nation’s best attendance figures in each of their nine seasons. Minnesota also holds the NCAA record for single game attendance in its first-ever varsity game at Mariucci Arena in front of 6,854 fans. The Ridder Arena attendance record was set on October 19, 2002 in the inaugural game drawing 3,239 fans.
A pivotal series, the Gophers will look to gain ground in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association and the national standings. The weekend marks a battle between the top two teams in the conference, with the Badgers entering the series with a four-point lead in the standings. The two teams have earned the last three national titles. Minnesota won back-to-back titles NCAA Championships in 2004 and 2005, while Wisconsin won its first in 2006.
