Golden Gophers Enjoy a Surprise Community Outreach Appearance
1/9/2007 12:00:00 AM | Women's Basketball
The Golden Gopher women’s basketball team and Goldy Gopher surprised the fourth through sixth-graders at J.J. Hill Elementary School in St. Paul with a community outreach visit during the lunch hour on Tuesday.
The Gophers rotated throughout the room giving everyone a chance to meet the players and ask questions. As always, Goldy was a kid favorite, entertaining the classes after a loud chant of “spin your head” filled the room.
St. Paul native (Central HS) Ashley Ellis-Milan, and teammates Leslie Knight and Korinne Campbell spoke on the merits of staying in school. The children were given Gopher bookmarks that became a popular autograph item.
Minnesota returns to action on Thursday, Jan. 11 at Northwestern, then plays host to South Dakota State on Sunday, Jan. 14, at 2 p.m. in Williams Arena.
