Ross and Lura Earn WCHA Weekly Honors

Senior Bobbi Ross and freshman Jenny Lura have earned Western Collegiate Hockey Association weekly awards after their performances against then-No. 1 Minnesota Duluth last weekend. Ross was named the WCHA Offensive Player of the Week, while Lura earned WCHA Rookie of the Week honors.
Bobbi Ross, a co-captain, scored three goals and three assists for six points to lead the Golden Gophers to a two-game sweep over the Bulldogs last weekend. Ross was a part of every goal in the Gophers’ 3-1 win over UMD last Friday (Oct. 26). The co-captain tied a school record when she scored two shorthanded goals and assisted on a power-play goal. She followed with a three-point performance in the Gophers’ 5-1 victory last Saturday. Ross set up Erica McKenzie’s shorthanded goal and the game-winning goal in the first period of the game and scored a goal of her own at 4:22 in the second to put the game at 4-0. Ross scored three goals on 11 shots for a team-best .273 shooting percentage and held a plus/minus rating of +5.
Lura made her first back-to-back starts in her career, and held UMD to two goals on the weekend. Starting in both games against the Bulldogs, Lura played in all 120 minutes and allowed one goal in each game as the Golden Gophers posted 3-1 and 5-1 victories over the UMD. She had 19 saves in the first game and followed with a career-high 25-save performance the following day in the 5-1 win. Overall, she had 44 saves and a goals against average of 1.00 for a .957 save percentage.
Ross, Lura and the rest of the Golden Gophers will face the No. 1 team in the nation for the second straight week. The Golden Gophers will travel to Madison, Wis., to face the No. 1 Wisconsin Badgers, Nov. 2-3. Both games are a 2 p.m. tilt at the Kohl Center.
