Gopher Highlights from the First Half of the Season

The University of Minnesota women's hockey team closed out the first half of the season with a 13-4-1 overall record and an 11-4-1 mark in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, holding the second-place spot in the WCHA standings. The Maroon and Gold finished the first half of the season with four consecutive shutouts, a school record. In fact, the Gophers have not been scored on in over 242 minutes of play.

Senior forward Erica McKenzie leads the Gophers in scoring with 23 points, followed by WCHA Preseason Player of the Year honoree Gigi Marvin with 21 points. Senior captain Bobbi Ross has 19 points, while Rachael Drazan rounds out the top four scorers with 15 points. Kim Hanlon and Jenny Lura have split time in the nets for the Gophers. Hanlon holds a 6-1-1 overall record with a 1.98 goals against average, while Lura is 7-3-0 in her rookie campaign for a 1.90 GAA.

Minnesota opens the second half of the season with a road trip to Detroit, Mich., to take on Wayne State, Jan. 5-6. The Gophers then host Boston College, Jan. 12-13 for their first home contests since Nov. 30-Dec. 1. The Gophers are currently ranked fourth in both the polls after holding a 5-3 record against ranked opponents in the first half of the season.
