The throwers led the way again, as the Minnesota men's track and field team had five event winners at the University of Wisconsin-Stout Warren Bowlus Open on Saturday in Menomonie, Wis.

The Gophers' throwing corps was perhaps the most impressive, taking the top four spots in the shot put. True freshman Aaron Studt won the event for the second meet in a row, taking the title with a toss of 56 feet, 4 inches. Senior Adam Schnaible was second in the shot put with a mark of 54-8, while Peter Miller (53-4 ½) and Jerry Netland (51-7) finished third and fourth.

Minnesota also took three of the top four places in the weight throw, this time with sophomore Andy Bastain leading the way. Bastain set a new career-best, winning with a throw of 62-8 3/4. Schnaible placed second again with a toss of 62-7 ¼, while Studt marked 55-6 ½ and was fourth.

Senior All-American Aaron Buzard took first in the 400 meters with a time of 48.39. Jason Erickson was third in 49.96, while Logan Stroman and E.J. Houston placed fourth and fifth with times of 50.00 and 51.05, respectively.

Other event winners for the Gophers were sophomore Luke Silovich in the 55-meter hurdles (7.80) and senior Pat Akpaette in the triple jump (45-4 1/2).

Ray Blackledge placed fourth in the 55-meters with a time of 6.68, while Wole Adebayo placed fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 22.96.

Minnesota will compete as a split squad next weekend, with some of the Gophers participating in the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa, and some in the UW-River Falls Classic in River Falls, Wis.
