Minnesota sophomore Cole Young advanced to the finals and placed 13th in the 1-meter competition at the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships at Canham Natatorium in Ann Arbor, Mich. Senior Shaun Kennedy placed 21st overall but did not advance to the finals.

Young tallied a prelims score of 283.25 and a finals score of 277.85 for a two-list score of 560.80. He finished ninth among all Big Ten Conference divers in the event. "Cole did a really nice job and was consistent on both lists," diving coach Jason Baumann said. "He has really improved his degree of difficulty over the last year. He has a very complete list of dives that is up there with the top divers. He will continue to be able to score higher and break 300 consistently."

Kennedy placed 21st with a prelims score of 246.35.

Young and Kennedy will compete in the 3-meter competition tomorrow and the platform on Sunday.
