Minnesota freshman Aaron Studt continues to impress in his first collegiate track season. Studt kicked off his outdoor season by earning Big Ten Conference Field Athlete of the Week honors after his performance at the Georgia Relays.

Studt, a Ripon, Wis., native, qualified for the NCAA Midwest Region Championships in the shot put with a third-place throw of 58 feet, 11 inches. The mark also set a new Minnesota freshman record, bettering the old mark of 57-7 by Karl Erickson. Studt added a fifth-place showing in the discus with a toss of 163-3.

The Golden Gophers are idle this week. Minnesota will send athletes to both the Stanford Invitational and the Texas-Arlington Invitational on March 30-31.
