Liz Alabi Places Third in Hammer at Georgia Meet

Golden Gopher Liz Alabi finished third in the hammer in Friday’s only event of the Spec Towns Invitational at the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga. The meet continues with a full slate of events on Saturday.

Alabi posted an NCAA Midwest Region Championships qualifying mark for the second time this season with an effort of 191 feet, 10 inches. Georgia senior Jenny Dahlgren, the defending NCAA champion, set a new collegiate record in winning the event with a throw of 239-4.

Two other Gophers competed in the hammer. Kari Schmidt finished fifth with a throw of 155-2, while Amanda Solberg was seventh with a toss of 123-5.

In addition to the Spec Towns Invitational, No. 16 Minnesota will have athletes competing on Saturday at Gustavus Adolphus’ Lee Krough Invitational in St. Peter, Minn.
