Andrea Smith Wins Pole Vaullt at Iowa Musco

Junior Andrea Smith won the pole vault with an NCAA Midwest Region Championships qualifying mark of 12 feet, 11 1/2 inches to highlight the performance of the No. 16 Minnesota women’s track & field team. Smith is the 18th member of the Golden Gopher roster to qualify for the regional meet.
Ruby Radocaj was the only Gopher thrower to capture an individual title. Radocaj won the javelin with a season-best throw of 152-8. Liz Podominick also notched a season-best, placing second in the shot put with a throw of 51-3. Liz Alabi finished second in the hammer (180-10) and third in the shot put (51-3). Kari Schmidt finished fifth in the shot put (47-2 1/4).
Christin Kingsley enjoyed one of her best meets of the season, winning the long jump with a regional qualifying leap of 20-3 3/4, less than an inch off her season best. Sarah Nelson did record her best jump on the season, 18-8, finishing seventh.
Kadian Douglas posted her two best times of the season in capturing the title in the 100-meter dash. The Gopher senior clocked a time of 11.84 seconds in the preliminary race and 11.87 seconds in the final. She also placed third in the 200 meters with a time of 24.68 seconds.
Other top-five finishes were Nicole Carroll in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1 minutes, 2.73 seconds, and Megan Duwell, who placed fifth in the 800 meters
