Jones and Hartmann Finish Beach Volleyball Competition at Collegiate Nationals

Junior middle blocker Jessy Jones (Naperville, Ill.) and sophomore setter Rachel Hartmann (St. Charles, Ill.) finished competition in beach volleyball at the Collegiate Nationals put on by CSTV.

Jones and Hartmann lost 15-7 and 15-11 to Texas in their first match of the tournament. They followed that up by dropping their second match to Cal Poly 15-13 and 15-10, and finished round-robin play by losing to Nebraska 15-11 and 15-11.

Minnesota finished 0-3 in Pool B in a pool that included Cal Poly, Nebraska and Texas. The Mustangs ended up winning the pool at 3-0, while the Cornhuskers were second at 2-1 and the Longhorns were third at 1-2.

San Diego won Pool A with a 3-0 record, while Stanford finished second at 2-1, Florida finished third at 1-2 and Penn State was fourth at 0-3.

“Jessy (Jones) and Rachel (Hartmann) probably had the least amount of preparation at beach volleyball of all the teams in the tournament heading into the competition,' said Minnesota Head Coach Mike Hebert, who traveled to San Diego with the Golden Gopher duo, “I thought they played well and put forth a strong effort. I was proud of their performance.'

The semifinals and finals had not been finished at the time of this release.
