Cerensek and Kennedy Named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District

University of Minnesota swimming and diving student-athletes Igor Cerensek and Shaun Kennedy were named ESPN The Magazine Men's At-Large Academic-All District today by CoSida. The Gophers were among 10 honorees in the District V University Division and advance to the Academic All-America ballot that will be announced in June.
Cerensek earned the academic honor for the second straight year. The Gophers also had two student-athletes named Academic All-District in 2006 as Cerensek joined swimmer Travis Beckerle.
Cerensek, a native of Zagreb, Croatia, is a senior 13-time All-American swimmer. At the 2007 Big Ten Championships, he finished third in the 100 freestyle, fifth in the 50 free and seventh in the 200 free to help Minnesota claim the Big Ten team title. He was a finalist in each of his 12 individual events at the Big Ten Championships during his career. He took home All-America honors in 2007 as part of the 200, 400 and 800 freestyle relays and 400 medley relay at the NCAA Championships in Minneapolis where the Gophers placed 10th. Cerensek graduated with a 3.85 GPA in psychology, is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and a three-time CSCAA Academic All-American.
Kennedy earned his first career All-America honor in 2007, finishing 10th on the platform at the 2007 NCAA Championships in Minneapolis. The Deerwood, Minn. native earned a trip to the NCAA Championships after winning the platform title at the NCAA Zone C Championships. Kennedy was also a five-time Big Ten finalist in his career. He graduated with a 3.59 GPA in biomedical engineering and is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and a three-time CSCAA Honorable Mention Academic All-American.
Joining the Gophers on the Academic All-District team were Anthony Imburgia (Eastern Illinois), Justin Wenger (IUPUI), Colin Lundeen (IPFW), Brina Guntil (Loyola), Eric Hodgman (Purdue), Ted Brown (Notre Dame), Zach Guthrie (Western Illinois) and Andrew Allenspach (Indiana).
