Gopher Women's Hockey Annouces 2007-08 Schedule

The University of Minnesota women's hockey team has released its  schedule for the 2007-08 season, announced today by head coach Laura Halldorson. The Golden Gophers will host 18 regular season contests, including contests against three 2007 NCAA Frozen Four teams.

Minnesota opens the 2007-08 season hosting the Nike Bauer Women's Classic on Oct. 5-6, as Minnesota and North Dakota face Boston University and Northeastern. The Gophers follow the classic hosting seven series and home-and-home contests against St. Cloud State. Minnesota's hardest portion of the schedule is in a three-week span starting at the end of October facing national runner-up Minnesota Duluth (Oct. 26-27 and Nov. 17-18) and national champion Wisconsin (Nov. 2-3). The Gophers will compete on Thanksgiving weekend for the first time since the 2004-05 season when UND comes to town, Nov. 24-25. The Gophers will close out the first semester at Minnesota State, Dec. 7-8.

The Maroon and Gold's first home contests in the second half of the season comes against NCAA Frozen Four participant Boston College, Jan. 12-13. Following home series against Ohio State (Feb. 8-9) and St. Cloud State (Feb. 16), the Gophers finish the regular season against Wisconsin (Feb. 23-24). The second season starts Feb. 29- March 2 in the WCHA First Round. If the Gophers win two-of-three games, they advance to the WCHA Championships, held in Duluth, Minn.

Minnesota returns 17 letterwinners from last year's squad, including senior captains Whitney Graft and Bobbi Ross. Breaking down the roster, Minnesota returns five seniors, five juniors and seven sophomores. The Gophers welcome newcomers in junior transfer Rachael Drazan and freshmen Jenny Lura, Laura May, Terra Rasmussen, Jen Schoullis and Emily West.
