Postcard #10 Wednesday, July 25
Welcome to the Golden Gophers’ Summer 2007 Fun in the Sun series. A new Gopher player or coach will be featured every day for the next couple of weeks. We hope you enjoy a glimpse of how your favorite Golden Gophers are spending the summer.
Go Gophers!
Greetings Gopher faithful!
Since arriving at the University of Minnesota (fondly referred to at “The U”, yes I am a quick learner!) I have experienced a frantic and exciting period of adjustment and transition. My first night on campus I arrived a few hours prior to the close of Post Camp in Williams Arena. It was great to walk into this place that just a few weeks prior I was hoping would be my next home and discover that now my dream had been realized. Just a few days later I had my first taste of coaching in the Barn...Ok, ok, so it was not filled with 14,000 charismatic Gopher fans, but you would never have known the difference. This group of young ladies worked hard and played tough as though there were thousands of adoring fans cheering them on!! Elite camp was great and I had an opportunity to meet our incoming class of 2008 as well as some of the top players in Minnesota; and this was only my fifth day on the job!!
Over the next week I worked extremely hard to become familiar with our current players and staff and figure out what my role and responsibilities were going to be. This process has been great and working with Pam and the rest of the staff in this short time has truly been my pleasure!! The majority of the week however, was spent preparing for the upcoming month of July as we prepare to travel across the nation for recruiting. This is actually one of my favorite times of the year because you are able to sit in gymnasiums all over the country and watch the most talented players in high school perform on a grand stage. I am really looking forward to discovering new talent and finding future Golden Gophers!!
In my spare time I have enjoyed becoming a more familiar with the beautiful lake systems Minneapolis has to offer. Lake Harriet has quickly become one of my favorite spots as I have also been able to watch a concert at the half shell on the lake. Although it has been a short time since I have arrived, I have enjoyed each and every day that I have lived here. This University and Gopher family has welcomed me with open arms and I could not be more appreciative for the opportunity! I have enjoyed the ride so far and cannot wait to see what happens next! I wish you all a safe and happy rest of the summer!! Go Gophers!!!
