Minnesota Soccer Adds Lisa Berg as Volunteer Assistant Coach

The University of Minnesota soccer program has announced the hiring of Lisa Berg as a volunteer assistant coach. Berg has spent the past two seasons as a student assistant and was also a two-year letterwinner for the Gophers from 2002-04.
“We’re thrilled that Lisa is continuing her coaching career with our program,” said Minnesota head coach Mikki Denney Wright. “She’s been an incredibly important part of our program and in building our championship culture.
Berg’s primary responsibilities for the Golden Gophers will include arranging team travel accommodations, as well as overseeing the team’s video recording efforts and training regimen. Berg will also serve as the Director of Minnesota Soccer Camps.
Berg’s best collegiate season came in 2003. She appeared in 14 games for the Gophers as a defender, including nine Big Ten contests. A 2002 graduate of Duluth East High School, Berg led the Greyhounds to consecutive Section 7AA titles and third- and fourth-place state finishes in 2000 and 2001, respectively.
“I’m excited to see the continued development of Minnesota Soccer and also to be a part of it,” said Berg. “I want to thank Mikki Denney Wright for the opportunity to learn and grow both as a coach and as a person.”
Berg graduated from the University of Minnesota last winter with a degree in kinesiology and minors in chemistry and Spanish. She rounds out a four-person coaching staff, including Denney Wright, Kate Cortis and Jerrod Roh, that has a combined 26 years of coaching experience and is amongst the most accomplished in the Big Ten.
After playing exhibition games against South Dakota State University (August 18) and Drake University (August 22), the Gophers will open the 2007 regular season August 31 against the University of Central Florida.
