Saturday's Gopher Soccer Exhibition Match to Feature Free Webcast

The Minnesota Golden Gopher Soccer team will open the 2007 season with an exhibition match on Saturday, August 18 against South Dakota State University at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium, beginning at 1 p.m.

Admission to the event, which marks the beginning of the 2007-08 athletic calendar at Minnesota, will be free. In addition, a live broadcast of the game will be available via gophersports.com. Join play-by-play broadcaster C.J. Spang and color commentator (and former Gopher soccer player) Nicki Burnie as they bring you all the hard-hitting action from the University of Minnesota’s St. Paul campus and beautiful Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium.

To access the live broadcast, just click on the “Live Video” link in the right-hand column at gophersports.com or follow this link. The streaming video feed will begin at 12:50 p.m. and requires Windows Media Player, which can be downloaded at windowsmediaplayer.com.

Minnesota Soccer fans will be able to watch five additional home contests live via the web this year by simply signing up for the University of Minnesota Gold Zone. Minnesota head coach Mikki Denney Wright and the Golden Gophers will look to return to Big Ten prominence this season as they welcome back 17 returning letterwinners and bring in a number of talented first-year players. After finishing their exhibition schedule August 22 at Drake University, the Gophers will open the 2007 regular season August 31 against the University of Central Florida in Knoxville, Tennessee.
