Minnesota Has Strong Showing in Sunday Workout

The Golden Gophers showed no signs of a hang over from Saturday’s scrimmage as the Minnesota football program drilled crisply for nearly two hours in helmets Sunday afternoon at the team’s indoor practice facility.

With the offense showing more precision in the passing game and the defense continuing to hit on all cylinders, head coach Tim Brewster said he liked the effort he saw from the team.

“I thought we had real good attention to detail,” Brewster said shortly after the practice ended. “We played fast and we’re starting to understand how to practice without pads. I really thought that the guys flew around did a lot of good things.”

Minnesota battled through a physical, 100-play scrimmage just over 24 hours earlier, which made Sunday’s effort even more impressive.

“We’ve set a standard of excellence,” said Brewster. “I asked our captains to make certain that each guy maintains that standard and raises their level of play.”

Brewster also took time to weigh in on Saturday’s scrimmage and said that the results that showed up on film were actually better that he thought they were going to be.

“There were a lot of good things and a lot of good effort,” Brewster said about the team’s lone public scrimmage of training camp. “We have some things to clean up. I though our rhythm was much better today.”

The Gophers have another big week a head with two-a-day workouts on tap for both Monday and Wednesday and single practices on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday as the team begins to focus in on its season opener against Bowling Green on Sept. 1.
