The Minnesota volleyball team remained No. 9 in the CSTV/AVCA Top 25 poll for the week of Aug. 27. Minnesota received 1,054 points in the poll, which was 22 points more then it had in the last version of the top 25.

It marks the sixth week in a row, dating back to the 2006 season, that Minnesota has appeared in top 10. The Golden Gophers finished last season No. 6 in the nation, and were No. 9 in this year’s preseason poll on Aug. 14.

This past week, Minnesota won in three games on the road over Notre Dame on Aug. 24. The Golden Gopher victory snapped a 17-match home opener winning streak that the Fighting Irish had owned since 1989.

Minnesota was among six Big Ten teams that were ranked in this week’s poll. Penn State was No. 3, Wisconsin No. 10, Ohio State No. 13, Purdue No. 17 and Michigan No. 20. The six Big Ten teams were the most by any conference in this week’s top 25, topping the five that represented the Pac-10.

The Golden Gophers will play host to three top 25 teams in this week’s Diet Coke Classic on Aug. 31-Sept. 2. Minnesota will face No. 23 Ohio University on Friday, Aug. 31 at 7:30 p.m. The Golden Gophers will also take on No. 2 Stanford in a rematch of the 2004 National Championship on Saturday, Sept. 1 at 3:30 p.m. Minnesota wraps up the tournament against No. 12 San Diego on Sunday, Sept. 2 at 1:30 p.m. All three matches can be watched live in the Gold Zone.
