Minnesota Volleyball Sets Media Day for Aug. 14

The Minnesota volleyball team will have its media day on Tuesday, Aug. 14 at 2:00 p.m. Head Coach Mike Hebert will be available to the media, along with the players on the team.
Minnesota will practice before the media session from 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon. Media is encouraged to get any footage during that timeframe. If they are unable to get to that practice session, the Golden Gophers will also practice from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. later in the day.
There will also be an intrasquad scrimmage on Wednesday, Aug. 22 at 1 p.m., which media are welcome to attend.
Practice will begin for the team on Wednesday, Aug. 8 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. There will be a later practice that day from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The Golden Gophers will have similar practice times until the season begins. There will be media availability before and after the practices with proper notice.
Minnesota will also have its match against the Alumni on Sunday, Aug. 26 at 1 p.m. The Golden Gophers will have their first match of the season in South Bend, Ind. against Notre Dame on Friday, Aug. 24 at 7 p.m.
The Golden Gophers will host the Diet Coke Classic the following week from Aug. 31 to Sept. 2. Highlighting that tournament will be a rematch of the 2004 National Championship against Stanford on Saturday, Sept. 1 at 3:30 p.m. Minnesota’s first match of the tournament will be against Ohio University on Friday, Aug. 31 at 7:30 p.m. Its final match of the tournament will be against San Diego on Sunday, Sept. 2 at 1:30 p.m.
Minnesota returns 10 letterwinners from last year’s team, which went 26-8 overall, advanced to the NCAA Regional Finals, finished second in the Big Ten at 17-3 and was ranked No. 6 in the nation.
The Golden Gophers bring back 2006 Honorable-Mention All-Big Ten middle blocker Jessy Jones (Naperville, Ill.), 2006 NCAA Regional All-Tournament outside hitter Kyla Roehrig (Papillion, Neb.) and its setter from last year, junior Rachel Hartmann (St. Charles, Ill.)
The Golden Gophers also welcome in the fourth-ranked recruiting class in the nation. That class features the No. 4 ranked recruit in the nation Lauren Gibbemeyer (St. Paul, Minn.), the No. 5 ranked recruit in the nation Brook Dieter (Bloomington, Minn.), the No. 88 ranked recruit Charde Phillips (Elyria, Ohio) and the 2006 Minnesota Ms. Volleyball honoree Hailey Cowles (Eden Prairie, Minn.), along with Caitlin Schneider (St. Charles, Ill.) who signed in the late signing period.
