The Minnesota women’s basketball program will head to the West metro of the Twin Cities to celebrate hometown seniors Leslie Knight and Jordan Barnes in the Hopkins Gopher Gold Rush on Thursday, Aug. 16. An evening of activities is planned with the goal of bringing Golden Gopher pride and the excitement to the upcoming basketball season to the hometown of a couple players on the Minnesota roster.
The Hopkins Gold Rush will be held from 6-8 p.m. at the Eisenhower Elementary School. Tickets for the evening are $7 and must be purchased in advance by calling the Gopher Ticket Office at 612-624-8080 (1-800-U-GOPHER outside the metro). Deadline to purchase tickets is Tuesday, Aug.14. Tickets will not be available at the event. The admission price includes a dinner from Famous Dave’s.
“We are excited to continue the Gold Rush for its second year and look forward to celebrating the pride of being a Minnesota Golden Gopher with the community of Hopkins and the hometown folks of our seniors Leslie Knight and Jordan Barnes,” said Minnesota head coach Pam Borton. “We take extreme pride in being Minnesota’s team and getting out to say thank you to our fans throughout the state is very important to us. Leslie and Jordan are not only captains on our team, but also wonderful role models for our younger kids. The Hopkins Gold Rush should be a fun event in a community that loves its basketball.”
The inaugural Gold Rush in 2006, traveled to Fosston, the hometown of Kelly Roysland.
