Minnesota Series/Specialty Notes
Today’s game was Tim Brewster’s third as a collegiate head coach and first on the road.
Today’s game marks the only contest the Gophers will play in Florida this season. This is only the second time the Gophers have played in the Sunshine State and the first in regular season contest in school history. The last time the Gophers played in Florida dates back to 1999 when North Carolina State defeated Minnesota, 38-30 on Dec. 28, 2000.
Today’s game marked the second contest between the two institutions. The Golden Gophers now hold a 1-1 record against the Owls. The first contest was a 46-7 win on Sept. 17, 2005 at the Metrodome.
The Golden Gophers now hold an all-time record 627-441-44. The 2007 campaign marks the 124th season of Minnesota football.
Minnesota is 18-3 in non-conference games in the last 21 contests.
Since 1998, Minnesota has held an 8-2 record in its first road game of the season.
Minnesota is 10-1 against Sun Belt Conference teams. The last time Minnesota played a member from the Sun Belt Conference was also Florida Atlantic in 2005.

Minnesota Team Notes
The Gophers have scored 20 or more points in 56 of 67 games dating back to back to 2001. The Gophers have also scored 30 points or more in 32 games of their past 52 games.
The Golden Gophers have notched 300 yards of total offense in their last six games.
Minnesota has amassed more than 300 yards of total offense in 51 of its past 55 games. The Golden Gophers have reached over 400 yards of offense in 34 of their past 47 games.
Minnesota has notched five straight games with more than 400 yards of total offense.
Minnesota was limited to under 300 yards of total offense just three times during all of 2006. The last time Minnesota did not gain at least 300 yards against a non-conference opponent was Oct. 28 of last year against North Dakota State.

Minnesota Individual Notes
Two true-freshmen made their first career starts for the Gophers today. Curtis Thomas started at the free safety position, while Ralph Spry started at wide receiver.
Jay Thomas ran for a 91-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. The last Gopher to accomplish the feat was Dominic Jones on Sept. 9, 2006 against California. The return marked the first of his career.
Eric Decker scored his third touchdown of the season on a 23-yard pass from Adam Weber. The pass was Weber’s touchdown pass in three games. It was the fourth connection between Weber and Decker of the year.
Decker had 12 receptions for 165 yards. He is the first Gopher receiver to post back-to-back 100-yard receiving games since Aaron Hosack did it in 2003 against Iowa (11/15) and Oregon (12/31).
Mike Sherels’ sack of Rusty Smith in the first quarter was the second of his Gopher career and his first since Sept. 1 of 2005. It was the second sack of the season for Minnesota.
Mike Sherels recorded his second tackle-for-loss of the season and 13.5 of his career.
Joel Monroe made a 21-yard field goal in the third quarter. It was his first field goal completion since the 2006 Insight Bowl. In that game, Monroe kicked two field goals with his longest coming in overtime for 32 yards.
Lee Campbell had his first career sack in the third quarter. Campbell’s sack is the Gophers’ third on the season and second of the game.
Tray Herndon scored his first career touchdown on a six-yard touchdown reception.
With his 13-yard reception, Ernie Wheelwright tied the school record for consecutive games with a reception touchdown with seven. He is tied with Ron Johnson of seven in 1999 and 2000.
