Tim Brewster Press Conference Quotes

“There’s a lot of positive things that came out of the game against Purdue. I thought we played much better defense. We talked about alignment, we talked about assignments and we talked about tackling, and in all three of those areas I felt like we were much improved.”
“But I really feel like we’ve got a chance to be a very, very good football team this season. We’ve just got to take care of the things that we can control. The self-inflicted wounds we (need to) eliminate.”
“I’ve been in the National Football League for the past five years, and what I’m looking at (in Ohio State) looks like an AFC West team. They’ve got an outstanding collection of football players on their team. It’s exactly what I’d expect the Ohio State football team to have.”
“We’ve got a tremendous challenge in front of us on Saturday night, but I look at it as a great opportunity. Nobody’s giving us a snowball’s chance to be in this game, and you know what? That’s great. We’re going to keep working this week; we’re going to prepare like crazy. Our football team is going to be a confident team when we step on the field on Saturday night, and we’re going to believe that we can win this game.”
On Ohio State linebacker and Wayzata native James Laurinaitis:
“I’ve day-dreamed about this kid. Here’s a kid who’s just a tremendous football player out of Wayzata High School right here in town, and he’s one of the best football players in America. And I’d be lying to you if I didn’t tell you I didn’t dream about him playing in maroon and gold. At Ohio State he’s a tremendous football player. His size, his speed, his physicality, his ability to make plays, he runs people down, he’s a great blitzer... He’s just the complete package.”
On Amir Pinnix:
“Amir Pinnix has played great this season. He’s put the ball on the ground a couple of times, which we’re not happy about, but we’re looking at who gives us the best chance to win. All three of those guys (Pinnix, Duane Bennett and Jay Thomas) are going to have to help us win on Saturday night. All three of them will play, but we’ll just determine who’ll be the starter at a later date.”
On players like Laurinaitis staying in state to play at Minnesota:
“You know better than anybody how important recruiting is to us, how much emphasis we place on keeping the kids in the state of Minnesota at home. They’re getting our message, they’re feeling our message without question I think the best players in the state of Minnesota want to stay at home and represent you, represent the people of this state instead of going to represent another state other than Minnesota. I think that message is being heard loud and clear.
“With the new stadium being built and a lot of the other things, it’s really helping us. Last weekend, we had in six kids and the response we’re getting from the kids that visit our campus is truly amazing.”
On the approach against OSU:
“If we take care of the things we can control and play as hard as we can play, we can beat Ohio State on Saturday night. We can talk and reflect back about how Minnesota won in 2000, but what’s most important is what we do today. What it comes down to is whether you’re preparing and doing all the things necessary to win on Saturday on Tuesday. If you work Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, you’ll have a chance on Saturday.
“Like Marty Schottenheimer told me, Winning is not hard, it’s the willingness to prepare to win that’s hard.’ We’re still teaching our kids about that process.”
On Eric Decker:
“I think that Eric Decker is really an outstanding player. He reminds me of Ed McCaffery, a big receiver we had in Denver. His toughness, size, speed, his willingness to go in the middle of the field, to make the hard, tough catches... he also has a savvy about him. It just takes a veteran-savvy kind of receiver to run the route that he scored the fourth-down touchdown on Saturday against Purdue. When you watch the way he ran the route and set the route up, it was really exciting for me to see a young kid like him run that route like that. I just think that kid’s future in our offense is limitless.”
