Brook Dieter Named Big Ten Volleyball Player of the Week

Freshman outside hitter Brook Dieter (Bloomington, Minn.) was named Big Ten Volleyball Player of the Week for Monday, Sept 3. Dieter became just the third freshman in school history to receive conference player of the week honors joining Katrien DeDecker (11/29/93) and Andrea Gonzalez (10/29 & 11/12/85).
Dieter recorded double-figure kills in all three matches this past week, to make her the first Minnesota freshman since 1998 to have double-figure kills in her first four career matches. She joins Yvonne VanOort on that list. Dieter has also recorded double-doubles in her first four contests, becoming the first player in school history to accomplish that feat.
This past week, Dieter was named to the Diet Coke Classic All-Tournament Team in a field that included No. 2 Stanford, No. 12 San Diego and No. 23 Ohio University. In three matches, Dieter averaged 4.38 kpg, 2.85 dpg, 0.69 blpg and 0.38 sapg, while hitting .326.
Dieter had a career-high 22 kills, hit .375 (22-4-48), had 10 digs, two service aces and two solo blocks in a five-game loss to No. 23 Ohio University on Aug. 31. On Sept. 1, she tallied 15 kills, 14 digs, five blocks and a service ace against in a four-game loss against No. 2 Stanford. Dieter finished out the tournament with 20 kills, while hitting .370 (20-3-46) with 13 digs, two blocks and two service aces in a four-game victory over No. 12 San Diego.
For the season, Dieter is averaging 4.69 kpg, 3.19 dpg, 0.75 blpg and 0.38 sapg (6 SA, 1 SE), while hitting .322. She is currently fifth in the Big Ten in kills, leads the team in kills (75) and is tied for the lead in service aces (6).
Minnesota will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 7 when it faces Eastern Kentucky at 6:30 p.m. (CT) in the Golden Bear Invitational in Berkeley, Calif. The Golden Gophers will also face Utah State on Saturday, Sept. 8 at 2 p.m. (CT) and No. 11 California on Sept. 8 at 9 p.m. (CT).
