Defensive back Ryan Collado
On the loss to Bowling Green
It was a tough loss, but all losses are tough. It was nice that we came back after being down 21-0 at halftime.
[Focusing on the positive] is definitely the main thing. We’re looking forward to Miami now. Their offense will provide a lot of obstacles for us
After a tough loss like last week, you can’t wait to get back out on the field. On Saturday, we need to be ready to play.
On regenerating excitement for the team
It was a tough loss, but after Sunday night, we just put it behind us. We learned from it, but now we’re ready for Miami of Ohio.
Kick returner Harold Howell
On his high school coach passing away this summer
That was a really tough loss because he was my mentor and I always felt comfortable talking to him and we talked on a regular basis. I’ve known him for about four years. He’s been a part of my high school program for a long time, but he’s been the head coach for about four years.
Quarterback Adam Weber
On the Bowling Green game and moving on to Miami
If we could have made a couple plays it would’ve been an entirely different game. We are probably going to be crisper this week. We’re going to really emphasize being crisp in practice and focused on running our offense correctly. I think that if we can go out there and execute, we’ll look like a totally new offense.
On emotions being different from last week
Getting the first game done with allows you to relax and focus a little more. Its still going to be the same old game, but I think I’ll be able to help the guys out in the huddle to calm down and relax because the first game I think I was looking for them to relax me and calm me down and this week they’ll be looking for me to do that for them.
On the offense
It’s a little different because this offense deals a lot with reads, so we are handing Amir the ball. It might appear that we’re running the ball a lot, but that’s just because that’s what the defense is giving us. The offense is so versatile, so if the defense is giving us the pass, we’re going to take that. Depending on how the defense plays, we don’t know how the game will unfold. It could be that we pound them with the run, or it could be the passing game.
On running the ball himself and carrying the ball 18 times against Bowling Green
I don’t think I ever did in high school. The coaches never gave me the ball that much, but I had a lot of fun with it. I really want Amir and the backs to get the ball and I think that’s what the coaches want, too. If I have to pull it down and run, that will happen. Running the ball eighteen times ... that’s a lot. Today I’m starting to be a lot less sore.
On the improved play of the offense in the second half
We gave the ball to Amir a lot more and relied on him and our offensive linemen to come off the ball and hit guys. I think it was familiar for us and it allowed us to get in a rhythm and that’s what we were lacking in the first half because we’d have one good play and then a few bad plays. When you do that, you’re going to give up the ball and have to punt it away.
