CHICAGO The Big Ten Network will televise seven of the conference’s 11 football games this weekend, including the Golden Gophers' game against Miami (Ohio) - DirecTV Ch. 221 this week.

The Big Ten Network gives fans their football fix all week long with THE BIG TEN’S GREATEST GAMES, COACHES’ Q&A, an encore presentation of the Appalachian State-Michigan game and of course, BIG TEN TONIGHT.

This week’s programming schedule features the series debut of COACHES’ Q&A, the show that lets the head coaches do the talking. The 60-minute show of sound bites airs Wednesday at 7 ET.

On Thursday at 7 ET, the Big Ten Network will re-air the Appalachian State-Michigan game, perhaps the greatest upset in college football history. The encore presentation features an exclusive interview with Appalachian State head coach Jerry Moore.

The BIG TEN FOOTBALL SATURDAY studio team of Dave Revsine, Gerry DiNardo and Howard Griffith will provide comprehensive studio coverage of Saturday’s action, including a one-hour pre-game show and post-game show around the noon ET games. The trio returns for a 90-minute pre-game show leading into the primetime games. A 30-minute wrap-up show caps the day’s events.

Women’s soccer steps into the spotlight this week with a pair of live telecasts. On Wednesday at 8 ET, the Boilermakers host Xavier. Wisconsin entertains Boston University on Sunday afternoon at 3 ET.

Big Ten Football: Week Two

At noon ET, the network will simultaneously carry five contests. Most of the nation will see Ohio State vs. Akron. Regional audiences will see Michigan State vs. Bowling Green, Northwestern vs. Nevada, Minnesota vs. Miami (OH), Purdue vs. Eastern Illinois. In primetime, all viewers will see the Illinois vs. Western Illinois game until 8 ET when most of the nation (except Illinois) switches to the Iowa vs. Syracuse game. Check your local cable listings. DIRECTV will carry all seven games.

Noon ET Akron at Ohio State (Ohio Stadium, Columbus, OH)
Announcers: Thom Brennaman (play-by-play), Charles Davis (analysis), Charissa Thompson (sidelines). Markets Include: All except Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Minnesota. DirecTV channel: 220

The Buckeyes look to avoid the “Brennaman-Davis Curse” against in-state opponent Akron. In each of the broadcast team’s last three games, the underdog has walked away with victory Boise State over Oklahoma in the 2007 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, Florida over Ohio State in the 2007 BCS Championship Game and last week’s stunner, Appalachian State over Michigan.

Noon ET Bowling Green at Michigan State (Spartan Stadium, East Lansing, MI)
Announcers: Wayne Larrivee (play-by-play) and Chris Martin (analysis). Markets Include: Michigan. DirecTV channel: 218

Michigan State looks to build on its successful season opener against Bowling Green. The Spartans rolled up a league-best 593 yards of total offense vs. UAB last week, but could have a stiffer test on Saturday. Bowling Green began its 2007 season with a thrilling 32-31 overtime victory at Minnesota.

Noon ET Nevada at Northwestern (Ryan Field, Evanston, IL)
Announcers: Scott Graham (play-by-play) and Derrick Walker (analysis). Markets Include: Illinois. DirecTV channel: 219

The Wildcats pitched a shutout of Northeastern last week its first in 10 years. However, the degree of difficulty increases this week against Nevada’s high-powered “Pistol” offense. Northwestern hopes to avenge last year’s 31-21 loss to the Wolf Pack in Reno.

Noon ET Miami (OH) at Minnesota (H.H.H. Metrodome, Minneapolis, MN)
Announcers: Roger Twibell (play-by-play), Mike Tomczak (analysis) and Becky Haarlow (sidelines). Markets Include: Minnesota. DirecTV channel: 221

Minnesota gets another crack at a team from the Mid-American Conference when the RedHawks roll into the Twin Cities. The Gophers dropped a heartbreaking 32-31 overtime game to Bowling Green on Saturday. Recent history will be on the side of the Gophers. Minnesota has not lost two in a row to start a season since 1992

Noon ET Eastern Illinois at Purdue (Ross-Ade Stadium, West Lafayette, IN)
Announcers: Ron Thulin (play-by-play), Butler By’not’e (analysis) and MaryRachel Dick (sidelines). Markets Include: Indiana. DirecTV channel: 223

Boilermaker fans get their first home look at Purdue’s high-flying offense led by quarterback Curtis Painter. Eastern Illinois is coached by former Boilermaker quarterback and assistant coach Bob Spoo. This is the first meeting between the schools separated by approximately 120 miles.

SATURDAY
Primetime Games

7:00 ET Western Illinois at Illinois (Memorial Stadium, Champaign, IL)

Announcers: Jim Kelly (play-by-play), Richard Baldinger (analysis), Dara McIntosh (sidelines). Markets Include: Illinois. DirecTV channel: 218

Illinois’ electrifying quarterback Juice Williams hopes to return from an eye injury that caused him to miss much of the season-opening loss to Missouri. If Williams is unable to play, the ball goes to back-up Eddie McGee who threw for 257 yards on Saturday. This is the first meeting between Illinois and Western Illinois.

8:00 ET Syracuse at Iowa (Kinnick Stadium, Iowa City, IA)
Announcers: Mark Neely (play-by-play), Glen Mason (analysis), Marshall Harris (sidelines). Markets Include: All except Illinois. DirecTV channel: 220

The atmosphere should be intense for Iowa’s home opener. It will mark just the third true night game in Kinnick Stadium history. In last year’s meeting, the Hawkeyes won a double-overtime thriller, 20-13, at the Carrier Dome. In the second overtime, Iowa stuffed four straight Syracuse running plays on the goal line to preserve the victory.
