Gretchen Larson played pitcher, catcher, outfielder and first base while at Minnesota and achieved All-America recognition by both the AIAW, as an outfielder in 1982, and by the NCAA as a utility player in 1983. She completed her tenure in Gold Country as the all-time career record holder for earned run average at 0.81. After graduation, she competed internationally with the Raybestos Brakettes, who won the American Softball Association women's major fast pitch national title in 1983 and 1985, and were runner-ups in 1984. In addition, Larson was also selected to the U.S. Tri-Nations team in 1984 which competed in Los Angeles. She also played on first place teams at the World Championship Tournament in London in 1985, the Netherlands Invitational in 1985, and the World Championship Tournament in New Zealand in 1986. Among her many honors and accolades, Larson was inducted into the Minnesota Softball Hall of Fame in 1987.
