Miami Head Coach Shane Montgomery Quotes

On being down 16 points with eight and half minutes to go:
“I told the guys we need two scores and two two-point plays. At that time you obviously have to keep the faith. We actually scored pretty quickly which helped us even though we didn’t get the two point conversion, it gave us some spark. We stopped them and got the ball back and scored again. We just kept persevering and I think that’s a sign of a quality football team. To be a great football we just have to keep persevering.

On coming from behind and in position to win:
“I was proud of the way our team played. We put ourselves in a position to win it after looking like we didn’t have a chance. We’re going to play a lot of games like this. There are no moral victories, but we had a chance to win and have to find a way to get over the hump and win games like these. Give Minnesota credit; They at one point probably thought they had it, then we did and they just hung in there and made some plays at the end that we didn’t make.”

On the quarterback change in the fourth quarter (Kokal to Raudabaugh):
“I just felt like we needed a spark. Kokal played well at times, but in this type of situation I felt Raudabaugh is a little bit better drop back passer. At that point in the game I thought we were going to have to throw the ball and he did a tremendous job of getting us back into the game.”

On playing in the Metrodome:
“We knew it was going to be a tough environment and not everything was going to go our way. We have a lot of young guys that are anxious to play. We played hard for 60 minutes and three overtimes, but just didn’t make enough plays to win the ball game.”
