POSTGAME QUOTES

Minnesota head coach Pam Borton

“Obviously this is a disappointing loss here at home, especially with the way we put ourselves in a hole in the first half.  You have to give Iowa a lot of credit.  We were lucky to get the game to overtime with the performance we had tonight.  They played great team basketball and we didn’t get the stops we needed down the stretch.

“I don’t think we were all on the same page defensively.  One thing just kind of led to another.  [Iowa forward Krista] VandeVenter hit a few really big shots for them at the end.  She’s a Minnesota kid playing her last game at Williams Arena, so it’s no surprise that she was big for them.

“I felt like we got a second chance to win the game in overtime, and I think we were fortunate to get that chance. I thought we had two or three players on the floor that were carrying the whole load. We’ll need other players to step up if we’re going to be successful.

“It’s a long Big Ten season, so we’ve got to go on the road and steal one again.  We just need everyone to show up and be ready to go.”

Minnesota forward Leslie Knight

“Our mindset going into overtime was that we had a second chance.  We were confident that we are a well-conditioned team, but we need to play better on defense.

Minnesota guard Emily Fox

On the shot she missed with :10 left in regulation:
“That’s my shot, but looking back I maybe shouldn’t have taken it.  Like coach said, some people weren’t on the same page defensively.  We definitely have to fix that.”

Iowa head coach Lisa Bluder

“This was a tremendous game.  It’s one of those games that’s fun to watch and be a part of.  Obviously, it’s great to be on the winning side.  We have a lot of respect for Minnesota.  I was proud of the way our team played and responded to their big runs.  I love to see five players in double figures.

“Minnesota is a great defensive team and they do a great job of denying the ball.  Each team was able to answer the other team when they made a big stop or a big score.

“This is a tough place to play.  Obviously, we’re happy to leave here with a win.”

Iowa forward Krista VandeVenter

On her game-winning shot:
“I knew the shot clock was running down, I wasn’t able to really think about it.  I just put the ball up and it fell.

On responding to Minnesota’s defensive pressure:
“We knew they were going to come out stronger defensively in the second half, but I thought we did a good job against that.

On playing in her home state:
“It’s always fun to come home and play in front of my family and a lot of my friends.”
