Three Gopher Recruits Named Ms. Hockey Candidates

Three Minnesota recruits that have signed National Letters of Intent have been named candidates for the Let's Play Hockey Ms. Hockey award. Sarah Erickson (LaPorte, Minn.), Anne Schleper (St. Cloud, Minn.) and Kelly Seeler (Eden Prairie, Minn.) are in the top 10 for the award, announced today by Let's Play Hockey.
Erickson, who plays at Bemidji High School was named the team captain of the first ever U.S. Under-18 Team. She led Team USA to a gold medal and was named one of Team USA's best players of the tournament. Erickson, a forward, finished the tournament tied for 11th in points. In five games played, the forward netted five goals and four assists for nine points. Erickson's five goals also tied for sixth overall in the tournament. In high school career, Erickson has earned all-conference honors in four consecutive years, while earning all-state honorable mention as a sophomore and first-team all-state selection last season. Along with individual accolades, Erickson led her team to a 22-7-1 record in 2006-07 to become the Greater Minnesota Conference Champions and the Section 8AA Champions under coaches Matt Menne and Keith Huerd.
Schleper, who plays for the St. Cloud Icebreakers, also won a gold medal with the U.S. Under-18 Team. Schleper was also named one of Team USA's best players of the tournament. A defenseman who attends St. Cloud Cathedral, Schleper scored a goal and two assists for the Red, White and Blue. Her lone goal of the tournament was a power-play tally. She finished the tournament with the fifth-best plus/minus rating of +11. In high school, Schleper is a three-time all-conference honoree and earned all-state honors last year and was the all-area player of the year. She was named the team’s rookie of the year in 2003-04 and was named most defensive for four consecutive years. As a junior, Schleper was the team’s most valuable player and team captain, a role that she also holds as a senior.
Seeler, a defenseman, is a member of the Eden Prairie High School team under head coach Tim Morris. Seeler was an all-tournament member when she helped the Eagles to a state championship in 2006. Seeler was a Pioneer Press All-State First Team selection in 2007 after earning all-state honorable mention the previous two years. Since 2004, Seeler has scored 115 points and has a plus/minus rating of +271. The Associated Press also recognized her as a three-time all-state honorable mention from 2005-2007. A three-time all-metro selection, Seeler was also a three-time all-conference honoree and was named the team’s best defender in 2007.
