University of Minnesota women's hockey sophomore goaltender Jenny Lura has been named the National Defensive Player of the Week for her performance against Minnesota Duluth last weekend, announced today by U.S. College Hockey Online.

Lura shut out the host Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs with a career-high 34 saves on Saturday in her first complete game of the season. The North Vancouver, B.C. product's third career shutout led the Gophers to their first-ever road sweep of UMD, and the Bulldogs' first time swept at home since January of 2002 (vs Wisconsin). On the season, Lura holds a .53 goals against average and a .974 save percentage in three games played. It is Minnesota's second player of the week honor after sweeping UMD. Monique Lamoureux was named the WCHA Rookie of the Week earlier today when she had two goals and an assist against the Bulldogs.

Minnesota continues WCHA play when it hosts Ohio State, Oct. 17-18 at Ridder Arena. Friday's game is also Rock Ridder' promotional night. In conjunction with Second Harvest Heartland, a local food shelf organization, every fan who donates a non-perishable or canned food item will receive free admission for Friday's game. Fans who are not able to donate food, can receive $2 admission. Friday's game is set for a 7:07 p.m. start, while Saturday's game is slated for 4:07 p.m.
