The Western Collegiate Hockey Association has announced that Gopher forward Monique Lamoureux has been named the WCHA Rookie of the Week for her performance against Minnesota Duluth last weekend. It is the first honor for the Gophers and for Lamoureux this season.

Lamoureux, a freshman from Grand Forks, N.D., scored two goals and added one assist in the visiting Golden Gophers' sweep over No. 1-ranked Minnesota Duluth last weekend. Producing a team-high 15 shots, Lamoureux scored in each game against UMD. She scored a power-play goal at 13:57 in the first period to put Minnesota up, 2-0, and the Gophers went on to a 4-3 overtime victory last Friday (Oct. 10). In last Saturday's (Oct. 11) game, Monique set up her twin sister Jocelyne for the Gophers' first goal of the game. She stole the puck, and took the initial shot, while Jocelyne was there to put in the rebound. Monique Lamoureux then scored an insurance goal at 2:09 in the second period for the 2-0 final. On the weekend, Monique held a +2 rating.

Minnesota continues WCHA play when it hosts Ohio State, Oct. 17-18 at Ridder Arena. Friday's game is also Rock Ridder' promotional night. In conjunction with Second Harvest Heartland, a local food shelf organization, every fan who donates a non-perishable or canned food item will receive free admission for Friday's game. Fans who are not able to donate food, can receive $2 admission. Friday's game is set for a 7:07 p.m. start, while Saturday's game is slated for 4:07 p.m.
