The Gophers arrived in West Lafayette, Ind. earlier this afternoon to gray skies and a cool breeze. The squad held a walk-through on the natural turf at Ross-Ade Stadium this afternoon. Tomorrow’s game will be the first and only regular-season game Minnesota will play on natural grass this season.
More midseason honors continue to roll in for Gopher wide receiver Eric Decker. The Sporting News Today named a Mid-Season All-America team and Decker was on the list. Decker is featured in a photo in the on-line magazine, which you can see by clicking here. Six members of the Sporting News Today’s Mid-Season All-America team came from the Big Ten, just one fewer than the Southeastern Conference and one more than was named from the Big XII.
Gopher fans should make sure to tune in to Big Ten Football Saturday on the Big Ten Network Saturday morning. The BTN show will have a nice feature on Minnesota head coach Tim Brewster. Here’s a look at what the Big Ten Network sent out in an email, promoting the feature on Brewster:
The energy and enthusiasm of Minnesota head football coach Tim Brewster is one of the reasons for the Golden Gophers’ stunning turnaround this season. A leading candidate for Big Ten Coach of the Year, Brewster has guided the Golden Gophers to a 6-1 mark after a 1-11 campaign last season. Jack Simmons and Deon Hightower tell viewers what it is like to be coached by someone as passionate as Brewster, and Brewster himself talks about where his coaching style came from and how it developed, citing very specific examples. The Big Ten Network has had some exclusive access to Brewster since he has been the head coach at Minnesota, and University of Minnesota Speech and Voice Professor, Elisa Carlson, breaks down footage of Brewster speaking with his team, dissecting and critiquing his delivery and tactics down to the syllable. The feature airs during the Big Ten Football Saturday Pre-Game Show presented by Suzuki ATVs, which begins at 10 AM CT Saturday.
One more Big Ten Network note to pass along. The Big Ten’s Greatest Games will feature the Golden Gophers next week. Thursday night at 8 p.m., viewers can see the 1996 Minnesota-Illinois matchup. In that contest, Illinois running back Robert Holcombe set an Illinois record by rushing 43 times for 315 yards. But that great performance wasn’t enough as the Gophers’ Cory Sauter capped a six-play, 80-yard march with a quarterback sneak for the go-ahead score with 46 seconds left, giving Minnesota a 23-21 win.
That's it for today. Make sure to log in tomorrow and follow along with us on the Gopher Gameday Blog here on GopherSports.com.
