Golden Gopher senior guard Emily Fox was selected to the Preseason All-Big Ten Team, announced Sunday as part of the Big Ten Conference Basketball Media Day activities in Chicago. Minnesota was tabbed to finish fifth in the team chase by a preseason vote of the Big Ten coaches, and fourth by the league media.

Fox, a Big Ten First Team selection a year ago, was the only backcourt player named to the five-person preseason honor squads. Returning Big Ten Player of the Year, Ohio State sophomore center Jantel Lavender, was a unanimous pick on both teams and honored as the Preseason Player of the Year. She was not, however, a unanimous selection for the Player of the Year. The coaches and media honored the same five athletes. Completing the Preseason All-Big Ten Team are Jenna Smith of Illinois, Allyssa DeHaan of Michigan State and Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton of Purdue.

The Big Ten coaches picked Purdue as the preseason favorite in the conference race, followed by Ohio State, Michigan State, Iowa and Minnesota. The Big Ten media put Ohio State on top, followed by Purdue, Michigan State, Minnesota and Iowa.

Fox enters her senior campaign with 1,039 career points. The 5-9 guard was one of the finest all-around players in the Big Ten last season. In Conference action, she finished fourth in scoring averaging 17.2 points per game, and also contributed 4.50 assists per game (third in the Big Ten) and 2.89 steals a contest (second in the Big Ten).

Minnesota complied a 20-12 overall record in 2007-08, and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. The Gophers tied for third (with Purdue) in the Big Ten standings with an 11-7 mark.
