Grimwood Named Big Ten Offensive POTW

Minnesota senior midfielder Clare Grimwood was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week a day after polishing off a five-point weekend. Grimwood totaled two goals and an assist as the No. 25 Gophers defeated Wisconsin (2-1) and Northwestern (2-0) over the weekend at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium in St. Paul.
In Friday’s win over Wisconsin, Grimwood assisted on teammate Kaitlin Wagner’s goal that gave Minnesota an early 1-0 lead midway through the first half. After Wisconsin tied the score a few minutes later, the Eagan, Minn. native netted the game-winner in the 63rd minute.
Grimwood helped the Gophers polish off a perfect home schedule with a 2-0 win over Northwestern on Sunday afternoon. Grimwood’s goal at the 76:31 mark gave Minnesota an important insurance score.
Grimwood’s is the fifth Gopher to be honored with a Big Ten POTW accolade this season, joining teammates Lindsey Dare (Sept. 1), Jennie Clark (Sept. 8), Kelsey Hood (Sept. 22) and Krystle Kallman (Oct. 13). Grimwood is the first Minnesota player to be honored with the offensive award.
Minnesota’s five different players winning the weekly award this year represent the most athletes recognized of any other conference school. Michigan State, Ohio State and Penn State have each had three different players recognized.
The Gophers (17-2-0, 7-2-0) wrap up their regular season schedule as they travel to take on Iowa (9-9-1, 3-5-1) in Iowa City on Friday for a 7:00 PM (CT) kickoff.
