Getting to Know the Rookies - Jackie Voigt

Let's get to know our Golden Gophers' 2008-09 freshman class. Four born-and-raised Minnesotans. Our third rookie Jackie Voigt, a 6-1 forward from Cottage Grove.
I chose Minnesota because: I’ve always loved Minnesota! I love that I will be playing for my home state in front of all my friends and family.
I’ve wanted to be a Golden Gopher since: I watched them upset No. 1 Duke in the NCAA Tourney and make the incredible journey to the Final Four!
My first thought when I moved away to college was: This is going to be exciting!
What cartoon character sums up your personality? Tigger, because he’s always smiling and having the best of times.
What is your favorite place to study on campus? Sitting in the sun outside Willey Hall on West Bank
What is your favorite day of the week? Thursday. It’s game day and it means Friday and the weekend is almost here.
Is there a certain conditioning drill you despise, though you know it’s good for you? Sitting in a wall sit for 5 minutes with 100 pounds on my lap. I know it’s making my legs a lot stronger but it hurts so bad.
Favorite sports movie: Coach Carter
Favorite TV show: The Office
Three words I’d use to describe myself as a basketball player: Intense, smart and diligent.
What has been the most challenging thing about your college experience so far? Making sure I get enough sleep.
Do you have a superstition or ritual before a game? I always listen to the song, “Heart of a Champion.”
My best pre-game meal is: A turkey sub, a cookie and lemonade.
How many songs on your iPod? Only about 300.
I’ve been in college for a few months, but I still miss this most about home: Our family dog Lily and a good home-cooked meal.
My favorite song right now is: “One Step at a Time” by Jordan Sparks.
What is your first basketball memory? My first practice in a small elementary school gym where I met most of the girls I played with my entire youth and high school career and are most of my best friends.
My teammates would describe me as: Fun!
When I was 5 years old I thought I was going to grow up and be? A teacher
When you were growing up, who was your hero? My parents.
I need to pack this for every road trip: My pillow and Gopher blanket.
