Getting to Know the Rookies - Brianna Mastey

10/29/2008 12:00:00 AM | Women's Basketball

Let's get to know our Golden Gophers' 2008-09 freshman class. Four born-and-raised Minnesotans. Our fourth and final rookie Brianna Mastey, a 6-1 guard from Becker.

I chose Minnesota because: I wanted to stay close to home and I loved the campus and coaches. It was the right fit.

I’ve wanted to be a Golden Gopher since: I was younger and watched them go to the Final Four.

My first thought when I moved away to college was:
More independence!

What cartoon character sums up your personality? Goofy, because I’m always goofy.

What is your favorite day of the week?
Friday because it means the weekend and no school.

Is there a certain conditioning drill you despise, though you know it’s good for you?
300s on the basketball court. It’s six down and backs to the opposite free throw line from the baseline. It is just really hard and not fun.

Favorite sports movie: Love & Basketball

Favorite TV show: The Hills

Three words I’d use to describe myself as a basketball player:
Physical, dedicated and athletic.

What has been the most challenging thing about your college experience so far? Balancing my time with school, basketball and friends.

My best pre-game meal is: Tacos.

How many songs on your iPod? 370.

My favorite song right now is: “Miss Independence” by Ne-Yo

What is your first basketball memory? Going to my first basketball practice in sixth grade and being scared of my coach because he yelled a lot. I almost cried during my first practice.

My teammates would describe me as: Outgoing

When I was 5 years old I thought I was going to grow up to be: An animal trainer

When you were growing up, who was your hero? My parents.

I need to pack this for every road trip: My cell phone.

How do you prepare for a game? I eat a lot and just hang out with the team and listen to music.

I watched this sport the most in last summer’s Olympics:
I watched it all every chance I had.

I hope to do this before I graduate from college:
Win a Big Ten championship.
