Blog: Gophers Gaining National Attention

10/31/2008 12:00:00 AM | Football

While loyal Minnesota Golden Gopher fans have seen things building with the football program throughout the course of this season, much of the national media hadn't quite jumped on the Gopher bandwagon until the last week or so. Having said that, we'll take anyone who wants to go on the ride. In the last week or so, there have been plenty.

The Gophers have received plenty of attention this week, leading up to a big game with Northwestern this weekend at the Metrodome. Here's a taste of some of the love Minnesota is getting these days:

- Kyle Theret was the focus of an Associated Press article, which ran in USA Today and the Chicago Tribune, along with numerous other publications.
- CBS Sportsline's Dennis Dodd has a good deal of Gopher talk in his Dodds and Ends column on the website.
- ESPN.com's Adam Rittenberg blogged about this season's success fueling the Gophers' already solid recruiting efforts.
- John Henderson, national college football writer for the Denver Post, says the Gophers are now "out of the shadows".

The above are just a few of the national items, which we can actually link to at this time. In addition to those, keep your eyes open for a some of these items as well:

- ESPN's College GameDay sent a camera and microphone to the Gibson-Nagurski Football Complex earlier this week to do a story on the Gophers and head coach Tim Brewster. That piece is slated to air Saturday morning on ESPN, as College GameDay leads into the Minnesota-Northwestern game, which will air on ESPN2 at 11 a.m.
- Sports Illustrated spoke with captains Adam Weber and Steve Davis earlier this week and a story is in the works for an upcoming issue (most likely next week's).
- ESPN The Magazine will be doing interviews with Brewster and a couple Gopher players next week for a story about the turnaround.
- Coach Brewster did an interview with The Sporting News earlier this week, with an article scheduled to be in the publication in the near future.

Last, but not least, here are a couple Big Ten Network links of interest to Gopher fans:

- The BTN is on campus this week for its Friday Night Tailgate show. You can get a taste for what you can look for on tonight's episode by clicking here to see what the FNT crew has done at other campuses so far this season.
- If you missed the "Tim Brewster, Master Motivator" piece from last week's Big Ten Football Saturday, you can watch it by clicking here. It is a very entertaining and well-done piece.

That's it for today. See you at the Dome tomorrow. If you're not going to be at the Dome (and shame on you, if you're not there to support this team), feel free to follow along on our Gopher GameDay Blog.
