Minnesota continues its fall women’s tennis season as one of nine teams taking part in this weekend’s Northwestern Invitational in Evanston, Ill.
The Gophers will compete against DePaul, Illinois, LSU, Michigan State, Northwestern, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Wisconsin at this weekend’s meet. The event begins in four singles flights and two doubles flights on Friday and concludes on Sunday.
Nine of the Gophers’ 13 players will take part in this weekend’s competition. Karina Chiarelli and Alessandra Ferrazzi will hope to ride their momentum from two weeks ago and compete in the “A” Flight. Chiarelli won the individual title at the Drake Invitational, while Ferrazzi placed third in the top flight at the Cal Nike Championships in Berkeley, Calif.
Minnesota’s Tijana Koprivica will play in the “B” Flight, while Jackie Sperling and Magdalena Wiecha will compete in the “C” Flight. Jackie Claypool, Liz Tusler, Elena Kazakova and Peta Forsyth are all scheduled to play in the “D” Flight.
In doubles, Ferrazzi and Koprivica will team in the “A” Flight along with Sperling and Wiecha. Forsyth and Tusler are scheduled to tandem in the “B” Flight with Chiarelli and Kazakova also partnering.
The meet will be Minnesota’s final full team competition this fall with selected players participating at the ITA Midwest Regional meet set for Oct. 23-28 at Michigan State.
