Blog: Border Battle Tonight, Tomorrow

The Golden Gopher football team arrived in Madison this afternoon for their Border Battle with Wisconsin tomorrow. While the fight for Paul Bunyan's Axe is slated for 2:37 p.m. (how's that for an exact time?) tomorrow, the overall Border Battle will heat up a little bit tonight.
The Minnesota volleyball team is in Madison for a battle with Wisconsin. The Gophers dispatched the Badgers in four sets back in late September at the Sports Pavilion. Tonight's battle is slated for 7 p.m. at the Wisconsin Field House. Minnesota currently leads the overall Border Battle points total by a count of 125-55. Sixty points are on the line this weekend, with 20 points up for grabs in the volleyball match tonight and 40 more tomorrow at Camp Randall Stadium.
In fact, the Minnesota volleyball team is staying at the same hotel as the football team. Some of the Gopher student-athletes were catching up with each other and offering wishes of good luck, etc. in the lobby just a few minutes ago. There is a large contingent of the football traveling party who will be heading over to the Field House in a short while to take in the volleyball action.
As for the Gopher football team. The short flight to Madison was uneventful. The team walked through at Camp Randall Stadium in 38-degree, overcast weather. From what we're hearing, it may not be that nice tomorrow. The forecast I just looked at calls for 36 degrees, snow showers and a wind chill factor of 26 degrees at kickoff. We'll see what (if any) the weather has on the game.
Minnesota's last victory at Camp Randall Stadium came back in 1994. But this is a new team, with a new coach and a new attitude. I know the team and the coaching staff are focused on returning that axe to the Gibson-Nagurski Football Complex trophy case.
