Minnesota Postgame Quotes

Head Coach Tim Brewster
On the loss:
“Well, it’s tough. Obviously, I accept full responsibility for the way we played tonight. We just did not play well, and that falls upon my shoulders. I’d like to give Iowa credit, they came out and played well. We just did not match their physicality, which was disappointing.”
On the importance of having extra time to prepare form a bowl game:
“It gives us an extra spring practice. We’re going to use each and every day to get bigger and stronger. Obviously, from a physical standpoint, from a strength standpoint, we’re just not where we need to be. We’ll use this extra time to get in the weight room and to help these young guys get better.”
On regrouping before the bowl game:
“It’s my job and I’ll make sure we accomplish that. There won’t be a problem getting refocused. These guys improved as a football team this season without question. What we have to do is understand where we need to go. It’s really clear in my mind what we need to do to improve as a football team and to compete at the highest level.”
Minnesota Player Quotes
Sophomore QB Adam Weber
On his confidence after today’s loss:
“I’ve never lost confidence in myself or this team. Even when you are down by a lot, you still want to get out there and score. That’s what is so hard about this game, because Iowa is a ball-control team. They don’t give you very many chances and we didn’t take advantage of them when we had them. This game is really frustrating for us because they lined up exactly how we knew they were going to, but we just didn’t execute. ”
On offensive performance today:
“It felt just like the Michigan game again. We just didn’t click today. We found ways to hurt ourselves. That’s what has been our problem the past couple games.”
On gaining rhythm of the offense:
“I don’t think we’ve found a rhythm yet. Someone has to be held accountable. As the quarterback, that’s my responsibility. We just don’t have the aggressive mentality that we need. When things start going bad, we need to suck it up and fight that urge. I just felt like on that first drive a couple things went wrong and we started second-guessing ourselves.”
Senior LB Steve Davis
On the loss:
“This really hurts losing the last four games. We’ve got a bowl game to look forward to. The best thing the team can do is prepare for that [bowl game.] Everyone is disappointed about how this game went. I never thought [the season] would end like this. [Iowa] came in here and dominated us from the first quarter to the fourth. It hurts especially because of all the hard work we put in over the offseason and coming into this game. I know a lot of guys on the team are down, especially the seniors.”
