Kelsey Sorenson
November Cheerleader
of the Month

When/where did you first start cheering? I started cheering my freshman year here at the University of Minnesota on the basketball cheer team!

What made you want to cheer at the University of Minnesota? I thought it would be fun to try something new, test new limits, and set new goals. It was also a great opportunity to be a part of a prestigious athletic program and to cheer on the gophers. After stunting for the first time, I was immediately hooked and eager to learn.

What is your favorite part about cheering for the Gophers? I love the challenge and learning new things! I also like that it allows me to be involved at the U of M with a great group of friends who become more like a family.

Who is your favorite Gopher athlete? I don’t have a favorite; I enjoy watching many different sports and athletes.

What is your favorite cheerleading memory? Going to the women’s big ten tournament!

What cheer accomplishment are you most proud of? I am proud of every improvement I make and every new skill I learn. However, I would have to say that I am especially happy that I finally got a back handspring!

What non-cheer accomplishment are you most proud of?
I don’t see my greatest accomplishment as being something I have done. My greatest accomplishments are the times I have had a positive impact in someone’s life.

What do you like to do when you aren’t cheering on the Gophers? I love to dance (ballet, jazz, salsa, anything), run, spend time at the cabin, go hiking in the woods and be with friends and family.

Do you have any tips for high school cheerleaders who want to continue on in college? Never settle, and always look for some way to improve. Just go for it and work your butt off!
