For the second straight week, the Western Collegiate Hockey Association has announced that junior forward Gigi Marvin has received the WCHA Offensive Player of the Week for her performance against St. Cloud State last weekend.
Marvin had four points in the University of Minnesota’s series sweep over St. Cloud State last weekend. This marks the third offensive player of the week honor for Marvin this season. She also earned the honor on Dec. 4 (vs BSU) and Feb. 12 (vs OSU). In the first game last Friday (Feb. 15), Marvin netted a power-play goal and set up another power-play goal en route to a 4-2 Golden Gophers’ victory. She then followed that performance with a four-on-four goal last Saturday (Feb. 16) and also set up another power-play goal for a four-point weekend. With her four points, Marvin now leads the WCHA in overall scoring with 44 points on 18 goals and 26 assists in 32 games, and she is two points behind UMD’s Haley Irwin in the conference scoring race with 16-2137.
Marvin and the rest of the No. 4 Golden Gophers will compete against No. 5 Wisconsin this weekend. Saturday's game is set for 4 p.m., while Sunday's game is at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, is student day. All U of M Twin Cities campus students in attendance are eligible to win a full year tuition when they enter the chuck-a-puck contest during the game. U-cards must be presented to enter the contest. All students also receive free admission, pizza and soda at the game just for coming to the game. For the weekend, fans wearing maroon and gold or kids wearing their youth hockey jerseys can purchase a ticket for $1. In addition, kids who are involved in the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts program and wear their uniform to the game can also receive admission for $1.
