Golden Gopher tracksters Gabriele Anderson and Liz Podominick were honored with Big Ten weekly honors after their performances at last weekend’s Parents’ Day Open. Anderson was named the Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week, while Podominick was tabbed the Co-Big Ten Field Event Athlete of the Week. The awards are the first career weekly honor for both Golden Gophers.

Anderson, a junior from Perham, Minn., won the 800-meter run with an NCAA provisional qualifying and season-best time of 2 minutes, 8.97 seconds. She won the event by over five seconds.

Podominick landed a season-best throw in the shot put to win the event title with a toss of 51 feet, 2 3/4. She shares the Big Ten award with Purdue pole vaulter Briana Neumann.

Minnesota plays host to the 2008 Big Ten Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend (March 1-2) at the University Fieldhouse. Tickets are available by calling the Gopher Ticket Office at 612-624-8080 (1-800-UGOPHER outside the metro) or on gophersports.com.
