McKenzie and Coleman honored by Big Ten Conference

Minnesota senior guard Lawrence McKenzie was named third-team All-Big Ten today as the Big Ten Conference released the 2007-08 All-Big Ten men’s basketball team Monday.
Gophers forward Dan Coleman was named All-Big Ten honorable mention by Big Ten coaches and the media. McKenzie was also named an honorable mention honoree by the Big Ten media.
Monday’s honor was the second for both Minnesota seniors. Both Coleman and McKenzie were named by the conference as honorable mention selections a year ago.
Indiana forward D.J. White was a unanimous selection by Big Ten coaches as the conference’s player of the year.
Receiving first-team honors in the coaches’ poll were Indiana’s Eric Gordon and White, Michigan State’s Drew Neitzel, Purdue’s Robbie Hummel and Wisconsin’s Brian Butch.
Gordon, White, Hummel, Butch along with Ohio State senior guard Jamar Butler were named to the Big Ten first team by the media.
Matt Painter of Purdue was named the Big Ten Coach of the Year and Gordon was honored as the conference’s top freshman by both the coaches and the media.
The Gophers take on Northwestern in the opening round of the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday in Indianapolis. The game, which will be aired nationally on ESPN2, is slated for a 4:00 CT tip with the winner advancing to play third-seeded Indiana on Friday.
