Dorniden Advances to NCAA 800-Meter Final

Junior Heather Dorniden advanced to the final in the 800-meter run at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., on Friday. Dorniden clocked a time of 2 minutes, 7.42, to finish second in her preliminary heat, and easily earn one of the nine spots in Saturday’s 800m final.

Dorniden also ran the 800-meter leg of the Gophers’ distance medley relay that finished ninth in a time of 11:24.83. Gabriele Anderson led off the relay, followed by Rikita Butler, Dorniden and Jamie Cheever.

Cheever competed in the prelims of the mile, finishing with a time of 4:46.67, 14th among the preliminary competitors. The top nine advance to the final.

Julie Swengler also finished 14th in the 800 meter prelims with a time of 2:10.51.

Two Gophers will begin competitor at the NCAA meet on Saturday; Liz Roehirg in the pentathlon and Alicia Rue in the pole vault.
