Minnesota Opens up Spring Volleyball Season in Puerto Rico

The University of Minnesota volleyball team defeated the University of Puerto Rico-Cayey by scores of 25-14, 25-10, 25-11 in its first spring match on Tuesday, Mar. 18.

Minnesota got seven service aces from Christine Tan (Palm Harbor, Fla.) in the match, and Kelly Schmidt (Champaign, Ill.) led the way with 11 kills, and hit .710. Lauren Gibbemeyer (St. Paul, Minn.) also had nine kills in the match, and hit .640.

The Golden Gophers will play another match later today in Puerto Rico. Results will be available on gophersports.com.
